Treatments For Acne

Posted by acnetips

Acne is a common problem for teenagers, adolescent, and even some adults.Very few things damage your self confidence as much as active, painful and most of all visible acne lesions. To try and treat acne successfully, many scientists have spent a huge amount of time and effort searching for an effective acne treatment.

A wide range of acne treatments

Since we are all individuals and a little bit different from each other, it should come as no surprise that a little bit of trial and error may be required to find the acne treatment that works best for each individual.Luckily, there are genuinely hundreds of possible choices available to help you in treating your acne problems.

Most acne treatments fall into one of these categories:

Mild cleanser - These products are normally readily available over the counter in your local drug store. The mild ingredients they contain will work to cleanse your face of dirt and bacteria, thus tackling a primary cause of acne problems.

Chemical - Available either over the counter or on prescription, these products contain one of several different chemicals that are effective in eliminating bacteria, thus reducing the occurrence of acne.Common examples are salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.

Prescription - The treatment of acne is very well served by a vast range of available prescription drugs. As these acne treatments work in different ways you can be sure that no matter how severe your own acne is, there will be a treatment that can help. These medicines are prescription only and are therefore, not available over the counter. To get these medicines you must first of all see a doctor or dermatologist.

Other - Some other types of acne treatments available include light therapy, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and pulse light treatments.Normally a doctor, dermatologist, or other skin specialist would have to recommend these types of acne treatments.

Stay clean, stay clear

Keeping your skin clean and bacteria-free is probably the single most important thing to remember when it comes to treating your acne.Bacteria are the single most important cause of acne. Keep that under control and your acne will also be easier to control.

There is, however, no need to scrub your skin or even rub heavily to keep it clean. In fact by scrubbing harder you are very likely to irritate your skin. This is an ideal environment for bacteria and more bacteria means more acne lesions. You can give your skin the best possible chance of improving by gently washing it no more than twice a day.

Medical companies are in business to sell their products, so they will claim they have the solution to your acne problems, however many of their products will contain the same or very similar ingredients to their rivals comparable product.A good acne treatment will not cause unnecessary irritation or cause unfortunate side effects like dryness, flaking and itching. If it makes it easy for you to clean your face, it is a good treatment for acne.

If one product causes unpleasant side effects for you, either reduce your use of that product or change to a different product. No matter which products you end up using, it will take time for them to work. You should be prepared to stick with a product for a reasonable length of time to properly evaluate it’s effectiveness. If after a few weeks or so, you are not happy with the results, then move on to another treatment.
