Find Out What Causes Pimples

Posted by acnetips

Pimples can have a negative effect on you that far outweighs their limited size.Whether it’s one or several together, pimples have the ability to make the sufferer self-conscious and miserable.Nothing matters as much as discovering a genuine, workable way of removing them and getting your smooth, clear skin back.

Remove pimples by gaining a clear understanding of their initial cause.

The question is, what causes pimples?

To start with we need to understand how your skin functions.  The surface of your skin has millions of small, hard to see openings called pores. Some of these pores can have small hairs growing out of them, breaking out onto the skin surface.Deep down in each of these pores are to be found several tiny glands which produce natural oils. These glands are known as the sebaceous glands and the oil they produce is called sebum.

The main function of sebum is as a natural moisturizer for your skin.  It also helps to keep the pore clean by carrying bacteria and debris (like dirt and dead skin cells) up onto the skin’s surface where it can be removed.  This is your body’s natural way of getting rid of bad things and keeping your skin moist, supple, and healthy.

Most people will agree, puberty has a lot to answer for, with many different chemicals, including hormones, being produced by your body.  Because it is rather new at this process, it takes a while to get things all working in balance; during this time your hormone levels will rise and fall a great deal, sort of like a roller coaster.  It is these extreme fluctuations that throw your skin’s normal activity out of balance and create problems with acne and pimples.

Much more sebum than normal is produced by the sebaceous glands, due to the hormonal changes happening in your body.  The hormonal changes also interrupt how your pores shed and get rid of dead skin cells.Bacteria love the environment of a clogged pore. All that extra sebum with an endless supply of dead skin cells means that infection and inflamation will very soon follow. What you are left with is a pimple.

How you can help your acne pimples

The natural hormonal changes occurring in your body are pretty much beyond your control, however the number of pimples you get is something you can influence

1.    Keep your skin clean – It helps to keep your skin clean by using a mild cleanser each morning and evening. If your skin is irritated you are more likely to develop pimples. Therefore, choose a gentle facial cleanser and refrain from scrubbing your skin too harshly.
2.    Use medication – Anti-acne medications can help reduce the amount of sebum produced and also help your skin do a better job of getting rid of dead skin cells.  Two of the best medications (available over the counter) are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.
3.    Keep your skin moist – Dry skin leads to more pimples, so use a very light moisturizer on your face.Typically, an oil-free moisturizer will benefit your skin most.

Understanding how pimples thrive makes it easier to understand and accept what changes you have to make to effectively treat or prevent them in future.Congratulations on having found the right information to help yourself. Your skin will soon be reaping the benefits!
