Acne Remedies

Posted by acnetips

The top priority for an acne sufferer is quickly finding a solution. Now comes the important choice, how do you know which acne remedy is best for your needs?

So many remedies, so many results

The truth about acne remedies is that no single remedy will work perfectly for every single person.Unfortunately people react in different ways to acne remedies. This explains why there are so many acne remedies available. There is no, one size fits all, solution. This means that unless luck is on your side, a process of trial and error is inevitable.

If you are looking for a remedy to treat your acne, here are some suggestions for how to work through the process:

1.Start by concentrating on clean skin. The actions of bacteria on “dirty” skin causes acne, so any remedy has to start with clean skin.It will be advantageous to get into the habit of gently washing your face, twice a day, with a mild face wash formulated for acne-prone skin.

2.Include an anti-acne formula in your routine.  If washing your face regularly and keeping it clean doesn’t take care of your acne, add in a cleaner or face rinse that contains a bit stronger anti-acne formula.  Good choices include those containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.A stronger formulation may be necessary, but take the time to see what results you get by starting with a milder one.

3.Change your anti-acne formula.Possibly you have had a bad reaction to a particular acne remedy, or your existing formula is no longer effective.  If this happens then try switching to a different anti-acne formula; for instance, if you have been using salicylic acid try benzoyl peroxide instead, and if you have been using benzoyl peroxide try salicylic acid instead.

4.Your doctor can provide you with other options.  If your acne doesn’t respond to these kinds of over the counter acne remedies, pay a visit to your doctor.Your doctor will have a variety of choices of antibiotics and topical creams which can help control your acne. The goal for many people is to get their acne under control by using an antibiotic treatment for a few weeks or so and then reverting back to using one of the available, over the counter remedies.

Time, the great healer

All acne remedies share one common attribute, they do need time to work.Wonderful though it would be to have 100% clear skin after a couple of applications, it just isn’t realistic. Gradual improvement however, in a couple of weeks or so most certainly is realistic. There is always the option of moving up to a more powerful remedy if you are not seeing the level of improvement you want.

Always keep in mind that you may need to consult your doctor if you suffer a negative reaction to any of the acne remedies you try.Keep in mind that many different acne remedies exist and they work in many different ways.  With some professional guidance from your doctor or dermatologist, a little bit of patience, and a little bit of time, you can get relief for your acne and find yourself enjoying the self-confidence and comfort that comes with clean, acne-free skin.
